Youths Arrested, Accused of Stealing Handgun

From GCPD:

On Sunday, January 16, 2022 at about 2:25 AM, Glynn County Police Patrol Officer Duggan observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Crispen Blvd.  After conducting a safety and education contact for a traffic violation, the vehicle was found to be occupied by 4 juveniles.  The driver was a 16-year-old unlicensed person.  The vehicle had been driven to Brunswick by the juvenile along with friends from Jacksonville.  All four juveniles stated they were 16 years of age and all gave Jacksonville FL addresses.  Due to their ages and the time, all were in violation of county curfew ordinance.

While standing at the passenger door, FTO Varnedoe observed a handgun in the vehicle floor and all four occupants were detained for further investigation. The juveniles were taken to GCPD Headquarters for processing and their parents/guardians were advised of the situation.

About 4:30 AM, while GCPD officers were processing juvenile petitions, a citizen contacted Glynn-Brunswick 911 Center to report the theft of a handgun from their vehicle.  The alleged entering auto had taken place sometime after 8:00 PM January 15, 2022. The victim alleged the handgun was stolen from their vehicle which was parked at the Enclave at Gateway Apartments. Fortunately, the citizen was able to provide a serial number for the handgun and it was the handgun found in possession of the 4 juveniles.

During questioning, all juvenile suspects denied any knowledge of the stolen weapon or having committed any crimes.  The driver was also found to be in possession of 8 pairs of black latex gloves which the driver claimed to have picked up to take a picture of them.

Three of the juveniles were ordered detained by the Department of Juvenile Justice and later transported to Regional Youth Detention Center.

The fourth suspect was found to 17 years old, that suspect was booked and lodged at Glynn County Detention Center.
