St Simons Couple Killed in Amtrak Crash

It was reported by several sources yesterday that two St. Simons Island residents were killed in Saturday’s Amtrak train derailment in northern Montana. Liberty County Sheriff Nick Erickson said the names of the deceased would be released once the relatives have been notified.

Though the names haven't been officially released, Terry Dickson of The Brunswick news is reporting that Don and Margie Varnadoe of St. Simons are among the three killed in the weekend crash that also left over fifty injured.

Don Varnadoe was a leading real estate agent in the area. He also spent time on the Glynn County School Board. His wife, Margie was, before retirement, a teacher and administrator in the school system.
