No One Injured in Mercer Altama Fire

No one was injured in the fire that burned three apartment units and caused smoke damage in three others in a building at the Mercer Altama Apartments complex in Brunswick yesterday afternoon. According to Brunswick Fire Chief Randy Mobley a lack of firewalls in the attic space between the apartment units allowed the fire to spread quickly throughout the single-story building The fire department arrived on scene in about four minutes but much of the six-unit building was up in flames by the time they arrived. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control. All six apartment units in the building were occupied and all had working smoke detectors and alerted residents to the fire. The American Red Cross was on scene shortly after the fire to help those displaced find shelter and other necessities.
