Statement from Police on Kidnapping/Chase

From Glynn County Police:

On June 16, 2021 at 7:07 PM, Glynn County Police officers were working a vehicle crash near 3200 Highway 17 South. While working the crash, a female was heard screaming from the Friendly Express located at 3224 US 17 South. Officers ran across the street and the female advised her vehicle had just been taken with her child inside. The female stated she had parked her vehicle in front of the store and went inside, leaving her child unattended in the running vehicle. All available on-duty GCPD units responded to the area from across the county.

Glynn-Brunswick 911 Center broadcast an immediate lookout to all surrounding agencies. Glynn County, Georgia State Patrol and Camden County Sheriff’s deputies began to saturate the area.

After a review of the store surveillance, a possible suspect was identified. Officers responded to the suspects home just inside Camden County and did not locate the suspect.

At 7:43 PM, the vehicle was spotted just inside Camden County and a brief pursuit took place. The suspect fled from Camden Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol units back into Glynn County. The suspect attempted to turn left onto Buck Swamp Road and ran off road into a ditch becoming stuck. The suspect attempted to exit the vehicle and flee on foot but his path was blocked by Camden deputies. The suspect resisted officers attempt to take him into custody including biting an officer. In response to that resistance, a Conducted Energy Device was used to subdue the suspect and he was taken into custody at 7:51 PM.

The child was immediately taken back to the parent. The child appears to be unharmed and was treated on scene by Glynn County Fire Rescue, then transported by family for further evaluation.

The suspect was taken to Southeast Georgia Health Systems-Brunswick Campus in accordance with GCPD policy. The suspect has been booked at the Glynn County Detention Center with multiple charges pending at this time.

No further information will be released at this time.

Patrol Captain Stalvey would like to thank all agencies for their assistance in locating the vehicle and reuniting the child with their family.
