Stand-off at Westway Apts.

Family Violence incident

On Thursday, March 20, 2021, at approximately11:12 am, the Glynn Brunswick 911 Center received a call in reference to a domestic incident in the 900 building of Westway Apartments. The alleged victim advised that her husband threw a bicycle and coffee at her vehicle causing damage.

Officers responded to the residence and made contact with the alleged victim who stated that her husband was inside of the residence. The complainant/alleged victim provided the name and date of birth of the individual. The alleged victim also advised that her husband also said that he did not care if the police came to the residence and they would have to come in and get him.

The alleged victim advised that he was still inside the residence when officers arrived on scene. The investigation led to felony charges under the Family Violence Act and the identification data for the individual determined that he was wanted on out of state unrelated firearms charges. At this point it was decided that due to the overall circumstances, the SRT (Special Response Team) would respond.

A search warrant was drafted for the residence. The residents in the immediate area were removed and attempts were made to contact the communicate with the alleged offender. After no response, OC/OS was deployed into the residence, and an apprehension K-9 was called to search the residence.

The search yielded negative contact with the alleged offender.

The Glynn County Police Department was assisted by the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office and the Brunswick Police Department in this incident.

Law enforcement are currently involved in a standoff at Westway Apartments of highway 341. County police and sheriff’s deputies are engaged with a suspect. Swat is on scene. The man is not a resident of the apartments. He was visiting his ex-wife when things turned sour. She called police and authorities found outstanding warrants in his home state. Witnesses on scene say his wife is out of the apartment and he is currently in her apartment by himself.

Swat issued a warning and deployed numerous canisters of tear gas.

The man has not yet emerged from the apartment, so the K9 is being deployed.

after police sent the K9 into the apartment the man was no longer there.
