In a press release on Thursday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced plans to allow bars and nightclubs to reopen on June 1st as well as overnight summer camps and summer schools to begin, and professional and amateur sports to resume operations and practices. All of course with social distancing and sanitation restrictions put in place.
Starting June 1st, the ban of 10 of more than ten people is being lifted to allow up to twenty-five people.
"For several weeks now, gatherings of more than ten people in a single location have been banned in Georgia unless there is at least six feet between each person. Given favorable data and relying on Dr. Toomey’s advice, we feel comfortable incrementally increasing that number to twenty-five. That means starting June 1, 2020, you can have gatherings of more than twenty-five people in a single location if you have at least six feet between each person." says Kemp.
Kemp has also extended a public health state of emergency, saying we've got a “slow and careful transition to a new normal,” on the road ahead.
This news comes after the daily amount of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia are rising after weeks of decline. According to the state, Georgia has had over 45,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and at least 1,962 people have died.
